My name is Meyvel Mentado Bazan and from the moment I said my first word at the age of six months, my mother knew I would become the free-spirited and outspoken person that I am today. I was blessed to be born into a loving family of creative souls that would find the most unbelievable solutions to any problem that would emerge as part of our Cuban reality.
Even though I grew up in a home full of love, I always had a feeling something was not right. Although my parents stayed together literally until death did them apart, I always wondered if they would have been happier if they had separated. I know this might not be the picture every child wants to paint their parents in, but as you grow old and life hits you, you begin to understand that sometimes, letting go feels better than holding on. This valuable lesson would come in very handy when I had to go through a divorce myself.
And sometimes people interpret divorce as a failure in life, without realizing that failure is just a matter of perspective: we just need focus in life and we either choose to play defeated or to get up and fight. I chose the latter and here I am.
Next steps? I studied and became a paralegal at a family law firm, where I learned along the way that frustration is as contagious as happiness. I let myself embrace the possibility of somehow making a difference in the lives of others by helping them through the process family matters entail to show them that indeed, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but they just need to be open to find it. And that is how Simple Family Matters, LLC. was born.
